Method
Prepare the Watermelon
- Cut the watermelon into quarters and remove the rind. Cube the flesh into smaller pieces, ensuring there are no seeds.
- Measure out 4 cups of cubed watermelon and place it into the blender.
Blend the Ingredients
- Add 1 cup of cold water to the blender with the watermelon. This will help blend the watermelon smoothly.
- Blend on high speed for about 30 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth and no chunks remain.
Strain the Mixture
- Place a fine mesh strainer over a pitcher. Pour the blended watermelon mixture through the strainer to remove any pulp.
- Use a ladle to help push the liquid through if necessary. Discard the pulp left in the strainer.
Add Flavorings
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice, 2 tablespoons of agave syrup (or honey), and ¼ teaspoon of salt into the strained watermelon juice.
- Taste the agua fresca and adjust sweetness or acidity as desired by adding more lime juice or sweetener.
Serve
- Fill serving glasses with ice and pour the watermelon agua fresca over the ice.
- Garnish with lime slices or mint leaves if desired. Serve immediately for the best flavor.
