Prepare the Sloppy Joe Filling
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for another 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Prepare the Texas Toast
- While the sloppy joe filling simmers, preheat your toaster or oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of Texas toast. If desired, sprinkle garlic powder over the butter for extra flavor.
- Place the slices butter-side up on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Assemble the Sloppy Joes
- Once the Texas toast is ready, remove it from the oven.
- Spoon a generous portion of the sloppy joe filling onto the unbuttered side of half of the Texas toast slices.
- Top with the remaining slices of Texas toast, buttered side up, to create a sandwich.
- Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as potato chips or a simple salad.

Notes
Feel free to customize the sloppy joe filling by adding your favorite spices or vegetables. For a spicier version, consider adding diced jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce.
