Ingredients

For the Skillet
  • 14 oz smoked sausage adds a savory, smoky flavor that elevates the dish.
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice provides a hearty base that absorbs all the wonderful flavors.
  • 1 medium onion brings sweetness and aroma when sautéed.
  • 1 cup bell peppers adds vibrant colors and a slight crunch to the skillet.
  • 2 cloves garlic infuses the dish with rich, fragrant goodness.
For the Cooking Liquid
  • 2 cups chicken broth enhances the flavor of the rice; vegetable broth can be used for a vegetarian option.
For the Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil helps to sauté the vegetables and prevents sticking.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika lends a warm, smoky essence to the dish.
  • 0.5 teaspoon oregano adds a delightful herbal note to your sausage and rice skillet.

Equipment

  • Large skillet

Method

How to Make Sausage and Rice Skillet
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the sliced smoked sausage. Cook until nicely browned, about 5-7 minutes, and then remove from the skillet.
  2. In the same skillet, add olive oil and toss in the chopped onion, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Stir and cook until the vegetables soften and the onions become translucent, about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the long-grain white rice, paprika, oregano, and chicken broth. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  4. Add the browned sausage back into the skillet. Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the liquid.
