Ingredients

For the Salsa
  • 4 medium ripe tomatoes finely diced
  • 1 small red onion finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 medium jalapeño pepper seeded and finely diced
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 medium lime juiced
  • ½ teaspoon salt to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground

Method

Prepare the Ingredients
  1. Start by washing the tomatoes under cold water. Remove the stems and finely dice them. This helps release their juices, which will add flavor to the salsa.
  2. Peel and finely chop the red onion. The onion adds a sharpness to the salsa, balancing the sweetness of the tomatoes.
  3. Chop the fresh cilantro, ensuring to remove any thick stems. Cilantro adds a fresh, herbal note to the salsa.
  4. Slice the jalapeño pepper in half, remove the seeds (to reduce heat), and finely dice it. Adjust the amount based on your heat preference.
  5. Mince the garlic clove. Garlic adds depth to the flavor profile of the salsa.
  6. Juice the lime, ensuring to catch any seeds. Lime juice brightens the flavors and adds acidity.
Mix the Salsa
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and minced garlic. Stir gently to combine, being careful not to mash the tomatoes.
  2. Add the lime juice, salt, and black pepper to the mixture. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Serve
  1. Let the salsa sit for at least 10 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together and enhances the overall taste.
  2. Serve with tortilla chips, or use as a topping for tacos, grilled chicken, or fish.
