Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour This provides the perfect structure for your bread.
  • 1 cup warm water Activates the yeast for a fluffy rise.
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast The heart of your bread.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Feeds the yeast and adds sweetness.
  • 2 teaspoons salt Enhances flavor and strengthens gluten.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Adds richness and keeps bread tender.

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Loaf pan
  • kitchen towel
  • Oven

Method

Making the Bread
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar, stirring gently. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy and bubbly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the activated yeast mixture, olive oil, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Stir until combined, adding in the remaining flour gradually until you form a shaggy dough.
  3. Lightly flour your work surface and turn out the dough. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size—around 1 hour.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into two pieces, shaping each into a loaf. Place them in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Using a sharp knife, score the tops of the loaves and place them in the oven. Bake with steam for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
