How to Make Green Bean Casserole
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Blanch the fresh green beans in salted water for about 5 minutes until they’re crisp-tender. Once done, drain and cool them under cold water.
- Fry the shallots in olive oil over medium heat until they turn golden brown, usually around 4-5 minutes.
- Sauté the mushrooms in butter for about 6-8 minutes, until they are browned and juicy.
- Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed mushrooms and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Whisk in the milk and heavy cream gradually, then let the mixture simmer on low heat for 5 minutes or until it thickens.
- Season your creamy mushroom sauce with fresh thyme, salt, and black pepper. Taste and adjust as necessary.
- Fold the blanched green beans into the enriched mushroom sauce until well coated. Carefully transfer everything into the greased baking dish.
- Top your casserole with the delicious fried shallots and bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until it’s bubbly and golden brown.
