  • 3 pieces shallots known for their mild sweetness, they fry up nicely for a crunchy topping

How to Make Green Bean Casserole
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Blanch the fresh green beans in salted water for about 5 minutes until they’re crisp-tender. Once done, drain and cool them under cold water.
  3. Fry the shallots in olive oil over medium heat until they turn golden brown, usually around 4-5 minutes.
  4. Sauté the mushrooms in butter for about 6-8 minutes, until they are browned and juicy.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed mushrooms and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  6. Whisk in the milk and heavy cream gradually, then let the mixture simmer on low heat for 5 minutes or until it thickens.
  7. Season your creamy mushroom sauce with fresh thyme, salt, and black pepper. Taste and adjust as necessary.
  8. Fold the blanched green beans into the enriched mushroom sauce until well coated. Carefully transfer everything into the greased baking dish.
  9. Top your casserole with the delicious fried shallots and bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until it’s bubbly and golden brown.
